As we approach 2017 we thought we’d sit down and reminisce on what has, been a groundbreaking year for Lightbox. 2016 has seen Lightbox team up with some of the newest and most exciting promoters around but also delivering some amazing parties at our long running in-house nights, producing some wonderful moments in London clubbing History.
Starting off with CTRL Sound and the legendary “Vinyl Only†series. The Grand Theft Auto: Vice City themed artwork was an instant pull for clubbers across London, on top of that the lineups saw the combination of the new school and the old school to great effect.  We welcomed back a dubstep pioneer in D1 after a period of time away from the scene. We also saw a set that will go down in history, the 3 hour b2b set seeing DMZ Godfather Mala and American Dubstep ambassador Joe Nice join forces and pull out dubplates people didn’t know exist. Joe also joined us for an extended interview for our Blog which you can read here http://lightboxlondon.net/conversation-joe-nice/. Every night was a sell out welcoming dubstep fans new and old and reinforcing the view that it remains a staple sound in UK club culture.
Another huge success for us this year has been the ever growing popularity of our Sunday morning afterhours party, Dawn. With the ability to deliver a packed club on a weekly basis, we’ve witnessed some special sets the past year. Highlights include Subb-an, who blew us away with an afterhours masterclass! A further highlight was the Dusk to Dawn party which saw Dawn take over the whole Saturday night, opening doors at 10pm and going on until midday with memorable sets from the likes of M.A.N.D.Y, Leftwing & Cody and more! Not ones to rest on their laurels, Dawn are throwing b2b afterhours parties on NYD 2017 and 2nd January…not ones to miss.
2016 also saw the start of a brand new clubbing concept born out of 1990s clubbing mecca Metalheadz @ The Blue Note. After posting a frustrated message on his Facebook page about the lack of quality DnB events in the UK Doc Scott saw his post go viral. Tens of thousands agreed and urged him to start a night, partnering with Lightbox. The first two events have been sell outs, witnessing some historic moments. Previous lineups have seen renowned artists like Marcus Intalex, J Kenzo come down and play…we also saw the return of Commix who hadn’t played a set in years! January 2017 sees the 3rd installment of Future with an equally stacked lineup and tickets very close to selling out!
We also celebrated a number of notable birthdays for parties we host. Most recently the Cutting Edge 3rd birthday which saw legendary elrow resident De La Swing tear the roof off the Lightbox, bringing his signature passion, creativity and innovation behind the decks forming a unique connection with the Cutting Edge crowd. Other notable birthdays include the Dispatch Recordings 15th Birthday! We witnessed a 2 hour b2b set from Drum and Bass legends Klute + Dom & Roland combining their huge back catalogues with the freshest music in the scene.
Rounding things off we just wanted to say a huge thank you to all who passed through our doors this year. We couldn’t have done it without you. To thank you we are throwing some huge parties at the end of the year leading into the new year. New Years Eve celebrations see Innovation take over Fire & Lightbox, with Dawn taking over Lightbox from 4am for the NYE Afterhours session with some VERY special guests. Heading into 2017, Magna Carta take over for their NYD ‘17 special with none other than Steve Lawler headlining! We look forward to sharing more memorable experiences with faces old and new in 2017.
